Got a Nokia mobile phone? It’s important that you update the mobile phone’s firmware once in a while. Firmware is actually the software that keeps things on your Nokia mobile phone running.

There are a lot of benefits of upgrading your phone’s firmware. You may get functional enhancements, bug fixes etc. Some issues that you might be having with your phone can be solved with a firmware upgrade.

Updating Nokia Mobile Phone Firmware

Here I’ll tell you the things you need to do in order to update the embedded firmware in your Nokia cell phone.

Things to do before a firmware update:

  1. Install Nokia PC Suite, and back up all the stuff from your phone to your computer.
  2. Charge your phone battery to its full level.
  3. Beware that any hindrance (like power off, etc.) during the update process can damage your phone.

Let’s get started.

  1. In your Nokia mobile phone, type in *#0000#
Your Nokia mobile will now display the firmware version it’s running
  2. Carefully open the back case of your mobile, and also take away the battery.
  3. Note the product number down
  4. Go here and type the product number. You’ll now know if a new version of firmware for your Nokia mobile phone is available
  5. Download the Nokia Software Updater. Click here to download it
  6. Install the Nokia Software Updater (I think it’s recommended to run it if you have more than 256 MB of RAM on your computer)
  7. Connect your Nokia mobile phone via the USB port, and also make sure your computer is connected to the internet
  8. Run the Nokia Software Updater by clicking on the icon on your desktop
  9. The Nokia Software Updater connects to the internet, checks for updates, and then detects your phone to start installing firmware updates for your Nokia phone
  10. You might see some fuzzy things going on in your Nokia phone, and that’s perfectly normal to happen during a firmware update
  11. When all’s done, the updater gives a confirmation message and then the phone restarts
  12. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer

C2Doom for S60

"Doom1 is a 1993 computer game developed by id Software, and one of the most seminal titles in the first-person shooter genre. Combining immersive 3D graphics with graphic violence, it became both controversial and immensely popular; the shareware version is estimated to have been played by 15 million people." - Wikipedia

A few years after id Software published Doom for PC, it's source code was published and soon Doom appeared to many other platforms and hardwares. This site is for C2Doom, a Doom port for Nokia S60 and S80 phones.

The C2Doom is based on SDL Doom by Sam Lantiga and a version developed from Doom for Nokia 9210, also called CDoom. SDL, Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library that is also ported to S60 and S80 platforms.

The C2Doom for Nokia S60 and Nokia S80 phones offers same game playing elements that the original PC Doom. There are same episodes, maps, graphics and music than in PC version. As orginal version of Doom, also this version has has a multiplayer game - however this time implemented to be played over bluetooth. The Doom games has two separate elements: a game engine and a game data. The C2Doom is the engine and you need game data prior to play Doom.

Nokia e51 without cam announced

Nokia has announced a camera-free variant of the Nokia E51. The E51 is impressively small at 61cc, but still has a full feature set including quad-band GSM with GPRS and EDGE, WCDMA with HSDPA (850 and 2100Mhz), and WiFi. There is also a FM Radio, 2.5mm audio jack and IrDA, USB and Bluetooth for local connectivity. The camera free variant of the E51 will be available in the next few weeks and costs approximately €250 before taxes and subsidies. Read on for more.

The camera free variant is clearly aimed at customers who work in industries where there are security regulations banning cameras. This sector may not be as big a market as it once was (cameraphones have become so ubiquitous business rarely ban them unless they really need to), but it still significant.

The cost of the original E51, when announced, was €350 before taxes and subsidies. Thus the camera free variant is €100 less at launch (reflecting the lack of the camera and the usual price fall after a product has been on the market for a few months). This makes it one of the cheapest S60 / Symbian phones you can buy. We consider it to be excellent value given the specifications and, assuming you can live without the multimedia software and hardware (as found in Nseries devices), comes highly recommended.

The E51 has the usual Eseries support for push email (Mail for Exchange, Nokia Intellisync etc.) and comes with a variety of business software bundled together under the Nokia Office Tools 2.0 branding. They include Nokia Team Suite, In-device Search, Quickoffice, Macromedia PDF reader, Zip manager, File manager and Active Notes.

"From powerful voice capability, such as long battery life (13 days standby) to 3G, WLAN and HSDPA connectivity ensuring quick access to emails and web content, the Nokia E51 has all the features you would expect from an impressive business device. It is simple to use with one-touch keys taking the user directly to, ‘contacts’, ‘email’, ‘calendar’ or ‘home’ – one short press accesses the function and one long press on the key creates a new contact, email or appointment.

In addition, the camera-free Nokia E51 features integration with a wide range of business email solutions, including Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email and Mail for Exchange to communicate with Microsoft Exchange Server, and consumer email, all for a streamlined email reading experience with easy access to attachments."
